The Chopsaw Diaries

My name is Brad Anderson. I live and work in Kansas City. As the name implies, my work is three dimensional. My primary mediums are wood, plastic, metal, found objects, toys, baby dolls, stuffed animals, clay and lots of other stuff. I have shown all around the region, taken first place in competition for jewelry and attracted the attention of the local news media. My main emphasis is on "shadowbox" pieces and jewelry, though I also make handbags and stuffed animals. My work is all about having fun, however, some question my idea of "fun"...

Artist's Statement:

There is a part of me that never “grew up”. I am still fascinated with comics,

cartoons and toys. Clowns, counter-culture and religious iconography and “B” horror films

play a part as well. I am also fascinated with and influenced by technology and the constant

stream of information which bombards us.

Much of my work is based on true stories that I have either heard from the news

or witnessed myself. It is also about contrasts; brutal reality wrapped up in fuzzy, cuddly

trappings, polished and candy-coated for mass consumption. Things are not always as

they appear on the surface. I also point to our voracious appetite for that which we

know is not good for us. We gleefully and slowly kill ourselves, one triple bacon

cheeseburger at a time.

My work reflects the world in which we live; sometimes funny and cute,

sometimes disturbing and horribly violent, sometimes true and sometimes made-up.

But, what is truth, anyway? It’s ALL made-up...isn’t it?
